Museum | Museu do Oriente

Inaugurated in 2008 in a unique building along Lisbon's riverside, the Museum of the Orient presents itself as a multicultural museum that preserves both the tangible and intangible heritage of various Asian countries through the testimonies of its two collections: Portuguese Presence in Asia and Kwok On.

The Portuguese presence in Eastern territories (India, Sri Lanka, China, Macau, Japan, and East Timor) resulted not only in trade exchanges but also in cultural, experiential, scientific, technical, and religious exchanges that enabled the knowledge of previously unknown worlds.

The evident cultural diversity highlights a stimulating and enriching dialogue between the West and the East.
